Wastewater treatment technology assessed Update: 23-07-2020
On the morning of July 23, Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology (DOST) established an advisory council to assess the two projects: “Long Thanh town’s drainage and wastewater treatment system in a priority period” and “Trang Bom town’s drainage and wastewater treatment system in a priority period” invested by Dong Nai Investment and Construction Project Management.

“Long Thanh town’s drainage and wastewater treatment system in a priority period” includes a wastewater collection system of Phuoc Hai, Van Hai and part of Kim Son. The wastewater treatment station is located in Kim Son on an area of 1.5 ha with the construction of a wastewater treatment line with a capacity of 1000 cubic meters per day and night, which can meet people’s needs in a priority period and the rest of capacity is for the development in the later period with a total investment of more than VND102 billion.

“Trang Bom town’s drainage and wastewater treatment system in a priority period” has an initial objective of investing in the construction of a wastewater collection sewer system and a wastewater treatment station to collect and treat wastewater for the existing residential area in the center of Trang Bom town including quarters 1, 2, 4, 5 and part of quarter 3. This wastewater collection and treatment system has a capacity of 1000 cubic meters per day and a total investment capital of about VND99,841 billion.

In terms of the wastewater treatment technology, both projects have selected SBR technology due to its outstanding advantages such as having a low investment cost; occupying a small area; allowing combination; having output quality meeting requirements; allowing a thorough treatment of N and P; allowing overloaded operation for BOD/COD inputs and stable operation even in case of insufficient capacity and easy expansion of capacity; requiring simple operation and maintenance; and using a popular and advanced technology in line with the trend.

The advisory council members basically agreed with the technology that the two projects have selected but they requested that project investors ought to add and clarify the shortcomings referred to by the council.

Making a conclusive speech at the meeting, Mr. Huynh Minh Hau, Deputy Director of DOST and Chairman of the Council asked units to complete required papers according to the Council’s suggestions in order that DOST can issue a technology certifying document.
