The research results of the two science projects handed over to Cat Tien National Park Update: 25-05-2020
On May 21, Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology held a ceremony to hand the research results of the two science projects over to Cat Tien National Park.

Particularly, they are the project of “Studying biological characteristics and reproductive breeding to develop green peafowls in semi-wild conditions with combined captivity breeding in Cat Tien National Park” led by Dr. Bach Thanh Hai and the project of “Studying and developing the model of cultivating shiitakes that are found in Cat Tien National Park” led by Master Pham Ngoc Duong from Cat Tien National Park.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoang, Director of Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology, handed the research results of the two science projects over to Cat Tien National Park.

With the aim of preserving and developing green peafowl population and preventing the risk of extinction in Vietnam, the project of “Studying biological characteristics and reproductive breeding to develop green peafowls in semi-wild conditions combined with captivity breeding in Cat Tien National Park has been implemented from September 2015 to September 2019.

After completion, Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology, the managing unit, has handed research results including 3 science products: “Technical procedures of raising green peafowls in semi-wild conditions combined with captivity breeding”; a general report on studying some biological characteristics and reproduction for breeding and developing green peafowls; 5 individual parent green peafowls and 12 F1 individual green peafowls for Cat Tien National Park.

The 17 individual green peafowls are currently growing and developing well and healthily and they are among the three products of the research project of “Studying and developing a model of cultivating shiitakes that are found in Cat Tien National Park”, which is carried out with the aim of studying the process, building a pilot farming model, and determining the true value of shiitakes Lentinula sp that are found in Cat Tien National Park, thereby preserving the precious gene sources of food mushrooms and valuable medicinal herbs of Cat Tien National Park. Up to now, the research team has completed the contents according to the original explanation including: studying the technological process of growing shiitakes; testing toxicity and determining nutritional and medicinal ingredients and fungal value; building a pilot farming model in which the pilot farming model has been successfully built. Currently, Cat Tien shiitake strains are being commercially cultivated with a small scale from 2,000 to 5,000 bags of mushrooms, which has initially produced positive results.

At the ceremony to hand the research results of science projects over to Cat Tien National Park, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoang, Director of Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology, requested that project leaders ought to continue completing their required documents and their remaining tasks and have them sent to Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology before May 31.

Also, Director of Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology wished that the beneficiary unit of the project will continue to apply and promote research results effectively; implement solutions for commercializing products. Particularly, for shiitake products Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology are willing to assist units to complete their required papers to have their intellectual property protected if necessary.
